چکیده

Abstract One prominent signature of collisionless magnetic reconnection in the magnetosphere is Hall effect. In ion-scale region reconnection, ions cannot follow field line whereas electrons are still magnetized. The difference motions and leads to charge separation, resulting transverse electric field, field-aligned streaming preserve neutrality, corresponding field. Such physics has long been invoked discovery kinetic Alfven waves (KAW) when perpendicular wavelength becomes comparable ion scale. this review, we present recent progresses theoretical modeling, numerical simulations situ observations that analyze effects terms KAW eigenmode. This review will also cover analysis impact eigenmode on acceleration energy conversion reconnection. We emphasize perspective can provide a unified description various phenomena including fields, current, parallel B , non-gyrotropy velocity distribution ions, close connection between fields fast rate ( $$\sim$$ ∼ 0.1). quantitative these aspects necessary for Petschek-type model era

Magnetic reconnection in a magnetosphere-accretion-disk system Axisymmetric stationary states and two-dimensional reconnection simulations

In the present paper we investigate the transport of accreting plasma across the magnetopause onto a strongly magnetized massive star (i.e. white dwarf or neutron star) by magnetic reconnection. A simplified axisymmetric magnetic field model of an aligned rotator is used to study the reconnection process. To be able to separate effects caused by instabilities of the system from intrinsic time-d...

Kinetic Vlasov Simulations of collisionless magnetic Reconnection

A fully kinetic Vlasov simulation of the Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) Magnetic Reconnection Challenge is presented. Good agreement is found with previous kinetic simulations using particle in cell (PIC) codes, confirming both the PIC and the Vlasov code. In the latter the complete distribution functions fk (k = i, e) are discretised on a numerical grid in phase space. In contrast to PIC ...

Kinetic Alfven wave in the presence of parallel electric field with general loss-cone distribution function: A kinetic approach

In past, kinetic Alfven waves are widely investigated regarding the transfer of energy from the magnetosphere to the ionosphere. These waves are supposed to be responsible for the acceleration of auroral electrons to exhibit auroral phenomena. The existence of parallel electric fields is always reported in association with the kinetic Alfven waves. In the present investigation, assuming paralle...

Scaling of asymmetric magnetic reconnection: Kinetic particle‐in‐cell simulations

[1] Recently, Cassak and Shay (2007) applied a generalized Sweet‐Parker analysis to derive scaling laws for gross properties of asymmetric magnetic reconnection, including the reconnection rate, outflow speed, and outflow density. This study presents the first comprehensive test of this scaling theory using fully electromagnetic particle‐in‐cell simulations of antiparallel asymmetric magnetic r...

Kinetic simulation of the VTF magnetic reconnection experiment

A new numerical code is developed to assist the interpretation of experimental results from the Versatile Toroidal Facility (VTF) magnetic reconnection experiment. As input the code applies profiles of magnetic and electric fields consistent with experimental measurements. Applying Liouville’s theorem the code calculates the electron distributions functions. The moments of the distribution func...
